What new trends are we seeing for 2021?
Big beachy waves have been in for quite a few years now. They are actually starting to fade out! Now we’re seeing a lot of big bouncy hair! Remember Jennifer Aniston from friends? This is the hair I’m talking about. It looks like we’re bringing it back to the 1990s again! Her iconic big hair blowouts are where this years taking us!
To achieve this look we’re using less heat! Replacing that hot tool with a nice big roller set and letting it sit!
Another style trend we are seeing this year is the high pony with the two pieces of hair coming down in the front. Who ever thought this trend would be back in? Easy Peasy.

Last trend that we see thriving is the crimped hair! This look is extremely easy to create.
1. Use a flat iron to get those crimped waves.
2. Crimper hot tool, they now come in so many different sizes.
3. BRAID YOUR HAIR BEFORE BED!

Our team leader @the.bbb.team_brooke shows us how to achieve the 90ss blow out and the flat iron crimped hair tutorials below.
Comment below what kind of trends you think will pop up for the upcoming summer!

Why You Shouldn't Be Ashamed To Switch Your Hair From Blonde To Brunette

3/16/2021

Picture

Are you feeling guilty about going from blonde to brunette?

Well, don't! That is the beauty of having your forever stylist! We are here to make you happy with whatever shade you want your hair to be. If you think about it, even stylists don't have the same hair color each time you see them, because it's fun to change your hair up!

Brunettes are actually coming back with a vengeance this year!

If you're a bit nervous about the transition a dimensional balayage or some low lights would be a good starting point.
If you're unsure about this transformation you can add a semi permanent and if you like it we can go over that color with a permanent color.
Lets talk dimensional Balayage.
With a dimensional balayage you aren't diving right into an all over brunette just yet. A dimensional balayage means adding dimension with a contrast of darker shades, lighter shades, or highlights.
Low Lights:
Low lights add natural looking volume along with some darker pieces to your hair by creating shadows and depth all over.
As far as repigmenting to go back to brunette, that is something called filling the hair with a tint of undertone that was removed in the process of going lighter. It's like painting you want to put those warmer undertones back in there so your hair doesn't turn muddy, grey or even greenish.
Your dark shade is achievable and you should not feel ashamed about wanting to live your brunette dream! Talk to your stylist and boost that confidence! Blondes may have fun but brunettes are still just as fun if not more.

6 Commonly Asked Questions About Hourly Pricing

3/3/2021

Picture

Hourly pricing is a new and more clear payment method being used in more salons today. Most salons offer a la-cart pricing. This method can be confusing and leaving the client in shock by the end of their service.

First, let's go over the difference between a la-cart and hourly pricing. At Brooke Bauer Boutique, we offer hourly pricing. The price of our services depend on time. Stylists vary in skill level and price range. Hourly rates vary from $50/hour to $200/hour. This hourly rate is a flat rate so you know exactly what you're investing in every time you book a reservation. With a la-cart pricing, there are add on services, extra charges, along with a tip.
For example, you book a reservation with hourly pricing. Your reservation is set for 4 hours and the stylist you went to charges $100/hour. Your total investment is $400 flat, no tip needed and all of your hair needs are met during your reservation. Now, let's say you booked at a salon with a la-cart pricing. You were quoted $250 for a balayage and haircut. However, your balayage is $100, your toner is $60, your hair treatment is $40, your haircut is $40, your blowout is $60, and your curls are $10. You are now paying $310. If you are a person who tips, let's say 20%, your grand total is $372. That is a $60 difference, this is called sticker shock.

Pricing options are not usually looked at in depth by the guest, so this sticker shock issue raises questions about hourly pricing from guests. These questions should not be left unanswered, so as a stylist here are 6 commonly asked questions about hourly pricing?

  1. 1.How does hourly pricing work?

Hourly pricing is simple. It is a flat rate based on time. For example, you go to book a reservation online. Your stylist charges $100/hour. This price includes lightening, color services, haircut, personalized shampoo and hair treatment, and a blowout+style. Your reservation will take 4 hours. Your total investment comes to $400. There are no add ons and no added tips/gratuity.

  1. 2.So, you don't accept gratuity?

No, with hourly pricing gratuity is not accepted. We feel that when a stylist charges hourly, the time and services are paid for and there is no need for a tip. Due to hourly pricing being based on time, your reservation is 100% one on one with you and your stylist so all of your hair needs are met.

  1. 3.Why do you offer hourly pricing?

At Brooke Bauer Boutique, we feel that services should be paid for by time, not by product. It is a more clear way to set up reservation time and there are no crazy price jumps by the end of your service.

  1. 4.What services would I be able to receive?

At Brooke Bauer Boutique, we offer a variety of services. Blonding, fashion shades, color touch ups, brunettes, red heads, and hair extensions. We offer services to all hair types and you can book with any stylist depending on your budget. Stylist's prices range from $50/hour to $200/hour.

5. Is added time considered an added on service?

Not necessarily. Let's say you book your reservation for 2 hours at $100/hour. You end up being at the Boutique for 2 hours and 15 minutes, your investment goes from $200 to $215.  This all depends if hair treatments or added services such as a haircut is needed.

  1. 6. Your hourly rate is too high for me, but i love coming here. What do I do?

Luckily, every stylist has a different hourly rate. This is commonly seen when stylist's have a price increase. Instead of paying $70/hour you're now paying $100/hour and this can interfere with your budget. If this happens, just ask your stylist what they can do and we will find a way to fit into your budget.

I hope this blog helped you get a better understanding of hourly pricing. This new method is clear and simple to follow. Booking a hair reservation has never been this easy!

Balayage vs HighLites

Picture
Picture
It can be extremely hard to decide what’s best for your hair, and the coloring route you want to take. There are so many different hair trends out now and how do you decide the best one is for you!? Lets break down two of the biggest hair trends out there now!
Balayage vs Highlights

What is a balayage? A balayage is A technique that involves hand painting the hair in sweeping motions with a brush. In other words, Hand painting highlights or low lights on to the Hair to achieve a low maintenance blended look.

So then what are highlights? Highlights create an over blonde look that start at the scalp and proceed through the ends.

Application:
A highlight application usually takes about 2-4 hours depending on hair length and thickness.
Highlights are created with lightener and foils. Foils are used to help create heat and lift the hair to the desired level of blonde. Highlights are achieved by taking small sections of hair right off the scalp and placing a foil with lightener inside.

A balayage application usually takes around 2-4 hours depending on the length and thickness of the hair. A balayage is created by using lightener and strategic placement to achieve the look that the guest desires. This technique is done by taking medium sections of  hair and hand painting lightener directly onto each section in a “v” like shape.

How balayage and highlights can be customized:
Both of these techniques are 100% customizable! A balayage is going to be the most customizable by far! Most people decide on a balayage for this specific reason.
At Brooke Bauer Boutique we have several different balayage techniques to fit exactly what you want. From an all over blonde look, to a natural and subtle sun kissed look. A balayage looks amazing on everyone.

Highlights are slightly less customizable because it creates more of a traditional blonde look. When it comes to highlights, highlights tend to start right up at the root, which one of the main difference between a balayage.
If you like a highlighted look but don’t want the foils to start right at the root there are customizable options! For example teasy highlights, which creates more of a natural blend at the root while giving the traditional look of highlights. Or a root smudge, which would help  with highlight outgrowth so you won’t see any harsh lines.

What about grey coverage:
If you are someone that struggles with covering your grays a balayage would be the best option for you. A balayage allows you to have an all over blonde look while still having a rooted lived in color appearance. A balayage creates dimension at the root which allows color for grey coverage, where as highlights would just help to blend grays out instead of covering them completely.

Maintenance: highlights require maintenance every 4 weeks. Because highlights start right up at the route for more of a traditional blonde look, maintenance is normally required every four weeks to blend out the line!
Maintenance for a balayage is a little bit different than highlights. Depending on what type of balayage is done maintenance can be anywhere from 5 to 8 weeks!

Safe Extensions For Fine Hair

2/9/2021

Hey Boutique Babes! Alyssa here to talk about what types of extensions are safe for baby fine hair...

Halo Extensions
Halo extensions are 100% safe for all hair types, but especially for fine hair! This is mainly because halo extensions don't attach to your hair at all. In fact, they sit on top of your hair. See-- a halo extension is a thicker weft of hair on an adjustable clear string so the hair just rests on your hair. These are super awesome if you're not sure about the commitment of extensions as well! These will do absolutely no damage and are made to be taken out at the end of each day.

Hand Tied Extensions
As many of you know, Brooke Bauer Boutique rebranded last year as a salon + extension loft. As a whole, our extension specialty is hand tied. Hand tied extensions are extremely versatile and good for many different hair types including fine hair! As someone who has very fine hair, I know first hand how scary it can be getting extensions. There’s so many questions like “will they be too heavy?” “will they look fake?” “will they damage my hair?” But I'm here to put all these questions to rest.

Will they be too heavy?
Your stylist is trained in being able to tell how many wefts your hair is able to handle. Another thing to remember is to not leave your hair wet after washing your extensions. Wet hair is always heavier then dry hair so always remember to blow dry right away! Move ups are typically between 6-8 weeks, sometimes as your hair grows out the extensions can cause a bit of tension. It's completely normal because like I said-- your hair is growing so naturally your extensions are shifting downward as well. I recommend mini move ups for my fine haired friends. This way at the 4 week mark you can get them moved up nice and snug and they won't have the potential to feel heavy!

Will they look fake?
I'm sure this is something many of you are nervous about. Going from fine to full can feel drastic but I promise you between custom coloring + custom cutting it will look like you were born with this hair!

Will they damage my hair?
As long as you are going to a trained professional and doing your part at home you wont experience any damage!

How to achieve the perfect blonde tone.

2/2/2021

Picture

Achieving the perfect blonde can be a challenge. It takes patience, an educated stylist, and the perfect formulation.

Achieving the perfect blonde tone starts with a thorough consultation! Understanding your hair goal is the most important part. Asking questions like

“What do you like most about this picture?”
This question is going to tell us specifically what you like about the color in the picture, and what you are seeing.

“Do you see dimension through the ends, or is it solid blonde”
Asking this questions is a must because it will help us to understand how much blonde you want to see through the ends of her hair.

“Do you like to wear your hair up?”
When planning for the perfect blonde it’s important I ask you how you like to style your hair. If you wear their hair up often, foiling the hair line is a great way to brighten up your hair right around their face to give it an extra pop of blonde detail.

“What tones do you see in this picture?”
This is an essential question to ask when you are a blonding guest. This will help us formulate down the road. Do you like icy tones? If so, is it a grey tone or a purple tone? Do you like the bright white look? If so, is it warm toned or cool toned? Asking what tones you are seeing in your inspiration picture is key to achieving the perfect blonde.

After the lightening application, we will be  sure to let it process for the full time. This will help to get the most lift out of the product.

At the bowl, after the lightener has processed for the full time and you have been shampooed out. I like to take a towel and towel dry the hair so I can get a good look at how the hair lifted. I am already asking myself the same questions.
What level is she? What are the undertones in your hair? What is her goal?

After assessing the hair it’s time for formulate for the perfect toned blonde.
Keeping your goals in mind and the undertones of your raw lift, formulating becomes easy. I like to start by making sure I’m formulating to cancel out any unwanted tones.
For example if you want to be a cool toned, Icy blonde and there are warm undertones in the hair you first have to cancel out the unwanted tones before being able to achieve the goal. This can be done by pre toning.

Other key tips for achieving the perfect blonde, is to let the glaze/ toner sit on for the full time. This will help with the longevity of the color, which is what every blonde wants.

Achieving the perfect blonde can be difficult but with a thorough consultation everything becomes easy and breezy.

New year new hair! Right??

Who’s excited to start 2021 with a fresh look? I know I sure am!

What are we predicting here at Brooke Bauer Boutique?

COLOR BLOCKING

Color blocking is huge! There are so many creative ways to choose your own touch + completely personalize it to you. It works with fashion colors or even more natural colors.

BANGS

Bangs are back + better than ever! The curtain bangs are a huge trend we’re seeing right now. These are a lot less maintenance than those short forehead bangs. They grow out more comfortably in between your hair reservations too. Also depending on the length, they can even sit behind your ears. So much less annoying when trying to get them out of your face!

EXTENSIONS

During quarantine a lot of us did a big “at home” chop! Although it was a super fun trend at the time, I’m predicting some are going to want to go back to their mermaid length. This option is great for you boutique babes, like me, who aren’t patience enough to wait through that (what seems like FOREVER) growth period!

Can I Get Extensions With Fine Hair?

1/12/2021

Picture
Hey Boutique Babes! Alyssa here-- back to bust yet another fine hair myth…
“Can I get extensions with baby fine hair?"

I'm just going to cut to the chase. Yes, you most definitely can get extensions! But you want to make sure you receive your extensions from a reputable source because if done wrong, could potentially cause damage to your hair.

I know first hand how scary it can be to get extensions for the first time, especially with fine hair. Personally, I have short baby fine hair and that actually kept me from getting extensions for the longest time. I was so nervous that they would be too heavy or you'd be able to see them sticking out. But about 4 months ago I decided to just go for it. And let me tell you-- I'm never going back!

All of those worries I had soon faded away. I found that my two rows of 18 inch extensions were not heavy at all. I can wear my hair up and I don't feel any tugging or pulling and sleeping is just as comfortable as before.

Here at the boutique, we offer hand tied extensions. These are some of the most comfortable, gentle and customizable extensions out there! The method we chose to use is extremely versatile in the sense that basically anyone can get them. Especially someone with fine hair!

Extensions for fine hair don't need to be extremely long. In fact-- they don't need to add any length at all. If you love the length of your hair but you just want to add some volume and fullness, that's totally fine! You could get extensions with a shoulder length bob if you'd like, it's just that easy!
