Did you know that the sun can actually damage your hair?
That's right, it's not just heat from your curling iron that's causing damage! The UV rays along with the heat from the summer sun can cause your hair to become discolored, dry and even brittle.
We know it's not practical to keep your hair out of the sun but here are some tips to help control the amount of damage you get in these hot summer months!
Are you struggling with postpartum hair loss?
There are so many hormonal changes throughout pregnancy and everyone notices changes in their hair. Most commonly, women do not shed hair as they normally would without being pregnant. After pregnancy when you have a drop in estrogen, all the hair that wasn’t shed throughout pregnancy falls out. This is why it may seem like an overwhelming amount of hair loss. Here is some information to get you through this time.
It IS normal
Like you read above, your hair does not shed throughout pregnancy. This is why your hair is extra thick and luscious. The average person loses 100 strands a day. Now imagine holding onto those extra 100 strands and then shedding them all at once. That is basically what you are going through. It is normal, you are not alone. If you’re breastfeeding, your hair loss may not begin until you wean, because of hormones as well.
Supplements to try
We highly recommend staying on your prenatal vitamin, as this will help. You can also try hair, skin and nails or collagen as well.
There are lots of ways you can enhance your hair throughout the hair loss process. Different cuts, colors or even changing your part can help disguise hair loss. There are only semi-permanent and permanent extensions options as well.

5 ways to keep your hair happy and healthy while lightening.
Going blonde is a process and not always an easy one. How do we ensure that our hair won’t get damaged during the journey?
Here are the top 5 ways to keep your hair healthy during your Blonding journey.
1. It’s very important to make sure you have a stylist who specialize in blonding. Here at Brooke Bauer Boutique we all specialize in different things for a reason.😊 Having a stylist that knows what they are doing means that know how to take care of your hair during the process. A stylist number one goal should always be to keep the integrity of your hair.
2. Everything Kevin Murphy! At Brooke Bauer Boutique we use Kevin Murphy’s color line as well as product line. His color line was created to be very gentle on the hair. It is ammonia free, sulfate free, and PPD free. There are also 5 different types of lighteners in his line, created for different needs. His clay lightener is used specifically for hand painting or a balayage. Powder lightener that is used for foil work. Ammonia free powder lightener which is also used for foil work but is made to be extremely gentle on the hair. He also has 2 cream lightener which hydrate the hair while lightening.
3. Trusting your stylist. We know this can be hard when you have a set end goal but putting your trust in your stylist is important. Because our number one goal is to keep the integrity of your hair it could be a possibility we suggest going a different route or not lightening your hair at the time. We always want to come up with a hair plan to get you to your goal.
4. At home care. This is where the most damage is caused. After a lightening session it’s important to give your hair a break. Don’t wash it for a few days. Washing it too soon can strip your glaze/ toner out. Making sure when you wash your hair you are using the correct products. Ask your stylist for recommendations. Also, wearing you hair up often can can more harm then good. Wearing you hair up for long periods of time can actually cause breakage!
5. Heat styling. We love styling our hair here at Brooke Bauer Boutique, but it’s important to protect the hair from all that heat! Heat protectant is a must! This is going to help protect your blonde from breakage over time!
If you haven't noticed, 90s trends are coming in full circle and we personally love it!!
Top Hair Accessories we see are Chunky Headbands, Oversized Scrunchies, Bandanas, Hats and even a Pearl Barrette. Just don't wear them all together, haha.
Summer can really damage your hair. Between the powerful rays from the sun to the constant washing because we get a tad greasier in the summer months. This is a very commonly asked question we get from our guests in the salon. So, here are some helpful tips from our stylist Sandra.
-Use deeply hydrating masks and conditioners every week in order to nourish your hair.
~ Avoid direct sunlight to your scalp as much as possible. Wear a hat or scarf covering over hair to prevent damage or sunburn to scalp.
~ Buy yourself a good hair oil like, Kevin.Murphys Young.Again. Hair oils help remove frizz and dryness without damaging your locks. You can use hair oils after you shampoo. Make sure to dry well before applying the oil from ends to tip.
~ Hold off on heat styling
Where you can, avoid styling your hair with heated tools, like a straightening iron or a hairdryer. Your hair can do without the high levels of heat when you’re prepping for a summer vacation. Instead, go for tool-free hairstyles; one way is braiding wet hair and shaking it loose when dry for dreamy waves.
~Want to go natural ?
If you want to try natural alternatives, you can go with apple cider vinegar conditioner or coconut oil and Shea butter.
We hoped all of these small tips helped!
Have you been feeling like some of the color your stylist uses on you bother your scalp or cause a reaction? The most common cause of that is due to the harsh chemicals in the color. There is a solution for this!
You can use Ammonia Free color- Ammonia is a chemical compound that can cause the hair strands to break, making the hair very brittle especially if you tend to color your hair a lot. Ammonia free is far less damaging to the hair, along with organic or natural products.
You can also use PPD free color- PPD is a chemical found in temporary tattoos, printer ink and gasoline. (Scary right!?) It is what gives most women a chemical reaction when they get their hair done.
Here at Brooke Bauer Boutique we care about the integrity of your hair. With that being said we make sure that we use products that are both Ammonia free and PPD free, Kevin Murphy.
Kevin Murphy's color is honey based hair color with pomegranate and shea butter. It is formulated to be gentle on the hair and scalp, while exceeding your color expectations.

Simple things like regularly wearing your hair in a tight ponytail can cause tension damage and breakage around your hairline.
-Instead, try a looser ponytail or low bun!
Sleeping with wet hair can cause damage, breakage and fizziness due to friction.
-Instead try washing in the morning, or blowing out your hair before bed + use a silk pillowcase!
*Side note: If you have extensions, always remember to dry your hair post shower! The weight from the wet extension hair commonly causes breakage! Tools like blow dry brushes can make this 10x easier! We also love shower caps to keep our hair dry while showering in-between washes!
Heat is one of the top causes of damage to our hair. Whether you’re blow drying, curling or using a flat iron you should always use a lower setting AND using some type of heat protectant.
-Kevin.Murphy’s Heated.Defense + Shimmer.Me Blonde for extra protection!

What new trends are we seeing for 2021?
Big beachy waves have been in for quite a few years now. They are actually starting to fade out! Now we’re seeing a lot of big bouncy hair! Remember Jennifer Aniston from friends? To achieve this look we’re using less heat! Replacing that hot tool with a nice big roller set and letting it sit!
Another style trend we are seeing this year is the high pony with the two pieces of hair coming down in the front. Who ever thought this trend would be back in? Easy Peasy.
Last trend that we see thriving is the crimped hair! This look is extremely easy to create.

Are you feeling guilty about going from blonde to brunette?
Well, don't! That is the beauty of having your forever stylist! We are here to make you happy with whatever shade you want your hair to be. If you think about it, even stylists don't have the same hair color each time you see them, because it's fun to change your hair up!
Brunettes are actually coming back with a vengeance this year!
If you're a bit nervous about the transition a dimensional balayage or some low lights would be a good starting point.
If you're unsure about this transformation you can add a semi permanent and if you like it we can go over that color with a permanent color.
Lets talk dimensional Balayage.
With a dimensional balayage you aren't diving right into an all over brunette just yet. A dimensional balayage means adding dimension with a contrast of darker shades, lighter shades, or highlights.
Low lights add natural looking volume along with some darker pieces to your hair by creating shadows and depth all over.
As far as repigmenting to go back to brunette, that is something called filling the hair with a tint of undertone that was removed in the process of going lighter. It's like painting you want to put those warmer undertones back in there so your hair doesn't turn muddy, grey or even greenish.
Your dark shade is achievable and you should not feel ashamed about wanting to live your brunette dream! Talk to your stylist and boost that confidence! Blondes may have fun but brunettes are still just as fun if not more.
Hourly pricing is a new and more clear payment method being used in more salons today. Most salons offer a la-cart pricing. This method can be confusing and leaving the client in shock by the end of their service.
First, let's go over the difference between a la-cart and hourly pricing. At Brooke Bauer Boutique, we offer hourly pricing. The price of our services depend on time. Stylists vary in skill level and price range. Hourly rates vary from $50/hour to $200/hour. This hourly rate is a flat rate so you know exactly what you're investing in every time you book a reservation. With a la-cart pricing, there are add on services, extra charges, along with a tip.
For example, you book a reservation with hourly pricing. Your reservation is set for 4 hours and the stylist you went to charges $100/hour. Your total investment is $400 flat, no tip needed and all of your hair needs are met during your reservation. Now, let's say you booked at a salon with a la-cart pricing. You were quoted $250 for a balayage and haircut. However, your balayage is $100, your toner is $60, your hair treatment is $40, your haircut is $40, your blowout is $60, and your curls are $10. You are now paying $310. If you are a person who tips, let's say 20%, your grand total is $372. That is a $60 difference, this is called sticker shock.
Pricing options are not usually looked at in depth by the guest, so this sticker shock issue raises questions about hourly pricing from guests. These questions should not be left unanswered, so as a stylist here are 6 commonly asked questions about hourly pricing?
Hourly pricing is simple. It is a flat rate based on time. For example, you go to book a reservation online. Your stylist charges $100/hour. This price includes lightening, color services, haircut, personalized shampoo and hair treatment, and a blowout+style. Your reservation will take 4 hours. Your total investment comes to $400. There are no add ons and no added tips/gratuity.
No, with hourly pricing gratuity is not accepted. We feel that when a stylist charges hourly, the time and services are paid for and there is no need for a tip. Due to hourly pricing being based on time, your reservation is 100% one on one with you and your stylist so all of your hair needs are met.
At Brooke Bauer Boutique, we feel that services should be paid for by time, not by product. It is a more clear way to set up reservation time and there are no crazy price jumps by the end of your service.
At Brooke Bauer Boutique, we offer a variety of services. Blonding, fashion shades, color touch ups, brunettes, red heads, and hair extensions. We offer services to all hair types and you can book with any stylist depending on your budget. Stylist's prices range from $50/hour to $200/hour.
5. Is added time considered an added on service?
Not necessarily. Let's say you book your reservation for 2 hours at $100/hour. You end up being at the Boutique for 2 hours and 15 minutes, your investment goes from $200 to $215. This all depends if hair treatments or added services such as a haircut is needed.
Luckily, every stylist has a different hourly rate. This is commonly seen when stylist's have a price increase. Instead of paying $70/hour you're now paying $100/hour and this can interfere with your budget. If this happens, just ask your stylist what they can do and we will find a way to fit into your budget.
I hope this blog helped you get a better understanding of hourly pricing. This new method is clear and simple to follow. Booking a hair reservation has never been this easy!
